On Travel and Tolerance

“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime.”
-Innocents Abroad

Often it is that the opinions we hold of ourselves and others get stale when we sit in one place for too long. Fear of the unknown is best conquered by striving to know what lies beyond our own narrow view of the world. Travel teaches tolerance to those willing to learn it.
